Vibe Altar is an interactive sculptural installation that explores ritual as a living practice of intention, agency, and remembrance. An illuminated crystal ball housed within a handcrafted wooden enclosure responds to visitor proximity, triggering one of nine audiovisual invocations in randomized rotation.
Each activation reveals a distinct visual environment aligned with a corresponding feminist text, allowing language, sound, and imagery to converge into a moment of intentional engagement. Technology serves as conduit rather than spectacle.
The textual overlays draw from Silvia Federici, Barbara Ehrenreich, Mary Douglas, Madeline Miller, Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Gerda Lerner, and Simone de Beauvoir — reframing witchcraft not as superstition, but as applied knowledge, care, and resistance.
At rest, the altar holds a meditative idle state. When approached, it awakens. The altar does not demand belief — it offers a pause.

Visitors activating Vibe Altar at Pen + Brush Gallery — each touch triggers one of nine audiovisual invocations composed in Vibes.
Each audiovisual environment is composed in direct dialogue with feminist scholarship — shaped by themes of manifestation, autonomy, and embodied knowledge.
Vibes is a music visualization platform designed and developed by Yiting Liu. The platform translates audio into dynamic visual environments — serving as both an artistic medium and a production tool for live events, audiovisual work, and immersive experiences.
For Vibe Altar, nine visual environments were composed and rendered using Vibes in direct dialogue with the installation's feminist source texts and original music by Cathartic Queen. Each environment plays back offline when triggered by visitor touch — no internet connection or live processing required during the exhibition.
